This was a satisfying close to a great trilogy of books, although I would have loved for the series to go on beyond three books. The pacing of the development of the colony and especially characters, as well as respective home worlds in relation to Doona were interesting, engrossing and fun. When I finished this last book in the series, it was so good that I seriously mourned the end of this series and its characters as I have real people in my life. This series of books had everything in them I cherish about life, learning and growing that I've found in my favorite Anne McCaffrey series, such as the true meaning of friendship, redemption, perseverance, self-sacrifice for the greater good, wisdom and humor.

I'd been trying to find this book for at least 10 years and I loved it. Anne McCaffrey is one of my favorite authors. Glad to have found it ..
Disappointing. Not Anne McCaffrey's best writing. The first story was the best. It's the only one in the series she wrote by herself, maybe that has something to do with it. Won't read again.
Love Ann Mccaffrey will miss her new books I always looked forward too!
Anne McCaffery is terrific at creating alternative species and worlds. I love her treatment here of varied views (in the future) of how human mix or don't mix with other species. And she seems to have a love for cats...they appears in starring roles in many of her novels...so if you love cats (I do!) you'll enjoy her tails/tales! Thisis book two of the DONNA series.
Anne McCaffrey never disappoints me. Her writing is so entertaining. She makes you love her characters. You feel like you know them and want to see what happens to them. I've read just about every book she and her son Todd McCaffrey have written. I even re-read them. It's like visiting an old friend.
Here we find that Todd and Hrriss, two characters who became best friends as children in "Decision at Doona", are still best friends 25 years later and have become role model citizens. But suddenly they are accused of some serious crimes just as the agreement between the Humans and the Hrrubans is up for renewal, and as a result the continued existence of their shared colony world is in jeopardy. No one who knows the two very well believes for a minute that they've committed the acts they're accused of, but the body of evidence against them that will be used to hold them in judgement seems to be mounting up. A riveting tale of mystery and suspense.
This is one of three books set on the world of Doona. Like most of McCaffrey's work, the world and its people are captivating. This is one of my favorite series, in part because the first book, Decision on Doona, introduces us to Todd as a child, which I love. I also love the felinoid species, the Hrruban, especially Todd's best friend, Hrriss. While I am disappointed that the cover illustrations never seem to pay any attention to the gifted descriptions of the Hrrubans, that is not enough to prevent me from buying multiple copies, so I can lend the stories without worrying about getting them back.
This is an excellent series; clever, moving, funny, gripping, tender. It is well worth the read. Don't bother with the library - you'll want to own this trilogy.
