I have read these books as child and want my grandkids to have the same experience as I had. I have a grand daughter who is only in third grade but reads college level comprehension she read them all and wishes there were more just as I did when I was reading them in Jr.High school. The only bad thing about a must that they just didn't have enough to continue on other stories that he could have done but the Strays never happened and he from what I understand passed away without having a chance to write anymore.

This is the first book by Gordon Dickson that I have read. I found it to be very exciting, and look forward to reading more of the Dragon Knight series.
The narration got a bit lengthy at times, but the story line went well. Since this was not the first book in the series it took a while to get the background data. A nice alternative time.
I have loved Gordon Dickson's sense of humor and writing style since my teens. This was a re-read for me, and just as much of a romp as the other Dragon Knight books. I'm very glad they're being re-released in digital editions!
I started this series at a young age so this is a reread for me. I love this world and I am a big fan of the Dragon Knight. This is a good fun story. If you are looking for deep and meaningful drama you will not find it here, but you will find a fun story your whole family can enjoy. I listened to the audiobook with my family on a road trip and got to listen to the whole story! To my surprise my family cut the chatter and got into the story so that we had to finish it on the way back.
This book was just as good as I remembered it for years ago, though it takes forever for the author to move through a few spots he keeps foreshadowing. As an added bonus, I barely found any editing mistakes as the previous Dragon Knight novels were riddled with!
Wonderful part of the Dragon and the George series.
Found the short Novel in science fiction magazine years ago. Read this but never got into the series until now.
Will read again..more of this and other works by Dickson when offered for only 1.99. Love the digital versions. Love the increasing of type. And especially the chance to read really great creative sf and fantasy.
Gordon writes fantasy with tongue in cheek and a distinct SF derived style. The book reads archaically, even for its day, but generally moves along well enough. Expect glaring sexism and cultural remixing. If you can get past that, the humorous parts usually work, making for some good popcorn level reading. (We all need popcorn sometime.)
