Extraordinary Means Robyn Schneider Books

I have a feeling I will be in the minority here with my opinion. This seems to be a well-loved book on Goodreads and I will admit I was drawn to it by the beautiful cover and the synopsis that was reminiscent of The Fault in Our Stars (because who doesn’t love TFIOS?). It had the potential to be a lovely, coming-of-age contemporary romance, but it just didn’t work for me. Aside from a few glaring issues I had with the main plot of the story (I will discuss later) many of the characters felt a little too cookie cutter for me. Sure, there was some cute moments between Lane and Sadie but overall it was too predictable. Lane was the high-strung kid who worked and worked and never knew how to take a risk. Enter Sadie, who is all about taking risks and sometimes seems to have no regard for her own well-being. Lane falls in love with this girl and finally learns how to enjoy life.

We are also dealing with these characters in a sanatorium where some of the kids are very, very sick. The moments that were supposed to be emotional for me ended up just falling flat due to my inability to connect with the characters. It was well-written and well-paced, but missing something for me that makes a book great.

Aside from me not connecting to the characters, I had a few issues with the main plot of the story that hindered my overall enjoyment of what would be a decent story. First, sanatoriums don’t exist anymore. If the author brought them back for this fictionalized drug-resistant tuberculosis, okay, but I imagine they would have a little more security! Which brings me to my second point, WHY were these kids with active TB able to run around in public?! I know they were sneaking away..but that would be a huge public health concern and I really didn’t like that the characters did not think of the consequences of their actions. Maybe that was the point. I don’t know. But it bothered me.

This book was just not for me. I definitely understand why some people enjoyed it and if you are looking for a TFIOS-like book, you may want to consider it. It doesn’t have the same witty dialogue as all John Green books do, but I can see why people would compare them. What are your thoughts on Extraordinary Means? Extraordinary Means Robyn Schneider Books Reviews

I enjoyed the writing of this book, but found the ending predictable.
I LOVED this book. What you need to know is it is the second book of two. I didn't know that when I read it. Read the first one first D you won't regret this book.
I saw a few reviews for this book with the nickname The Fault in Our Alaskas. As a fan of John Green, this seemed appealing. There are quite a few similarities between this book and Green's work. The humor is similar, the characters are intelligent and witty, and the plot is well-paced. If prospective readers of this novel liked John Green 's work, they will most likely enjoy this as well. I certainly did.
Ok. So I would like to start off by saying the following.. I am so in love with LANE! What an amazing book from start to finish. I bought this book not knowing if I would like it or not, I took my chances.. good thing I did because I am definitely going to want to read this book for the rest of my life.
Lane and Sadie meet under unfortunate times, as they both have an incurable disease (fictional disease I might add) but it’s so believable. These characters and their friends become a part of your life and you find yourself rooting for them. Books that are written in alternate points of views are definitely my thing, as you all may know. I am absolutely crazy over them! Both Sadie and Lane were described so well, like real teenagers of today’s modern times. The pop culture references were like a breath of fresh reality air, sucking me into this fictional world. I would recommend this book for anyone and everyone who enjoys a dose of true love, and friendship. ♥EG
Amazing Book
Amazing Characters
Amazing Story
Beautifully written , the tragedies of loss and love meshed perfectly with the beauty of hope and youth. Extraordinary means is one of those books that I couldn't put down , and I am sure to read again. Touching, thought provoking, funny, and sad. An amazing story with a message that it isn't about how much time we have, so much as what we choose to do with it.
This book is amazing if you're in the need for something cute and humorous. I do suggest keeping tissues nearby if you're a book cryer, like I am. Extraordinary Means had me bawling like a baby more than once. Fans of John Green's "The Fault in our Stars" and "Looking for Alaska" would most likely enjoy reading this. I really liked this book and plan on reading more Robyn Schneider books in the near future.
Not bad. I did enjoy this book, but what I picked up expecting to be a deep emotional novel about love, death, and disease turned out to be a much lighter read. Knowing the author's background with infectious diseases and biology, she has the technical knowledge to have focused more on the TB and been more in-depth, but she chose not to. Too much fluff and filler and dumbing down, and not enough giving teens the intelligence they deserve. This book could have been phenomenal but instead felt watered down
